McLaren's Ultimate Series has produced the F1, the P1 and now the W1. The new car keeps rear-wheel drive and a carbon tub, pairs a 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 with an electric motor, and produces 1,258 bhp and 1,340 Nm. The claim that matters is weight: 1,399 kg dry, which is modest for a hybrid hypercar with this output. The body is recognisably McLaren, with a low nose, compact cabin and a rear end dominated by an active wing that moves with the suspension. Production is limited to 399 cars. It is the natural successor to the P1 in a collection, and a reminder that McLaren's engineering argument has always been about mass as much as power.
