The McLaren F1 was designed without compromise by Gordon Murray, with a central driving position, a gold-lined engine bay and a carbon-fibre monocoque. The BMW-developed 6.1 litre V12 produced 618 bhp, and the car held the record for the fastest production car for more than a decade.
