Overview

This page is a catalogue summary while we rebuild it as a full ownership review. It is not yet a buying guide.

The 3.0 CSL was BMW's homologation special for touring-car racing, and it earned the nickname Batmobile after the aerodynamic package was added. The body used thinner steel and aluminium panels, the engine was enlarged to 3.0 litres, and the car was stripped of unnecessary trim. It was fast, balanced and hugely successful on track. It also established BMW's motorsport division as a force to be reckoned with.
