The GTA was the competition version of the Giulia Sprint GT, built to homologate the car for touring-car racing. Alfa Romeo replaced steel panels with aluminium, fitted a lighter front end and tuned the twin-cam engine, bringing the weight down to around 750 kg. The result was a giant-killer on circuits and rally stages. Its proportions are still regarded as one of Giugiaro's finest pieces of work.
