Panoramica
This page is a catalogue summary while we rebuild it as a full ownership review. It is not yet a buying guide.
The 959 was built to take Porsche back to rallying and ended up changing what a road car could be. It used a twin-turbocharged flat-six, all-wheel drive with variable torque split, adjustable suspension and a body shaped for stability at speed. The engine produced 444 bhp, enough for 317 km/h, and a racing derivative won its class at Paris-Dakar. Porsche Classic records 292 series-production cars. The shape is unmistakably 911 but wider, lower and more enclosed, with faired-in rear lights and a large rear wing. In a collection it stands at the point where electronic control and four-wheel drive entered the sports car mainstream.
