Vue d'ensemble

This page is a catalogue summary while we rebuild it as a full ownership review. It is not yet a buying guide.

The Seven is the car that made Lotus a household name among club racers. Colin Chapman's principle was simple: add lightness, then add only what the driver needs. The Series 2 kept the exposed aluminium body, swept clamshell front wings and upright windscreen, and used a tuneable Ford Kent engine. It could be built as a kit or bought complete, which kept it affordable and made it the template for generations of low-cost sports cars.
