Vue d'ensemble

This page is a catalogue summary while we rebuild it as a full ownership review. It is not yet a buying guide.

The Europa was Lotus at its most uncompromising. The engine sat behind the driver, the body was bonded to a steel backbone chassis, and the car was very low and very small. Early S1 cars had no opening windows and a sparse cabin, which made them feel closer to a racing prototype than a touring car. The Renault engine was modest, but the chassis had enormous grip.
