Overview
We have not driven this car. This review is based on published specifications and the sources listed below.
Identify the first-generation GTS
The 2015 Macan GTS uses a 2,997 cc twin-turbo V6 producing 360 PS, approximately 355 bhp, and 500 Nm. The catalogue's pre-facelift span is 2015 to 2018. Porsche quotes 5.2 seconds to 100 km/h, or 5.0 seconds with Sport Chrono, and 256 km/h. PDK and Porsche Traction Management all-wheel drive are standard. This guide covers that GTS, not the original Macan S, Turbo or the later higher-output facelift GTS.
We have not driven this model for this article. The specification comes from Porsche's GTS introduction and ownership context from the 2021 PistonHeads Macan guide, which covers the first generation. That article's prices, warranty examples and model coverage should not be converted into current costs or a universal GTS fault list. No supported model-specific production total is assigned.
Oil leaks and engine diagnosis
PistonHeads discusses timing-case-cover seal leaks on early V6 engines and turbo oil-supply-line leaks. These are prompts to inspect the individual engine and its repair history, not evidence that every GTS requires major work. Ask which seal or line was involved, how access was obtained and whether the leak returned. A cleaned underside cannot establish the answer.
Check for oil residue after the car has stood following a run, and inspect coolant level and visible hoses. The guide also mentions PCV or vacuum leaks, a fuel-pressure-valve whistle and coil or spark-plug issues. Request the actual diagnosis for any whistle, misfire or warning rather than accepting a generic assurance that all Macans behave that way. The V6 uses timing chains rather than a routine cambelt schedule.
PDK and transfer-case behaviour
Assess the PDK through normal low-speed and warm operation, with fluid and software history where appropriate. Ask about warning messages, jerking or unresolved updates. Do not confuse the Macan's dual-clutch gearbox with the Cayenne GTS's eight-speed Tiptronic torque-converter transmission. Their service requirements and low-speed behaviour are not interchangeable.
PistonHeads reports transfer-case shudder on some 2014-2018 Macans and discusses a US warranty response. That national example is not a universal entitlement or proof that this GTS is affected. Document any shudder and ask a specialist to diagnose the cause. Also inspect the driveshaft support bearing and coupling for clunks or wear, relating any finding to the actual car rather than a presumed fleet-wide failure.
GTS suspension, brakes and wheels
The GTS has PASM with a ride height 15 mm lower than the Macan S, 20-inch RS Spyder Design wheels, reinforced brakes and a sports exhaust. Identify this equipment from the build record. PistonHeads lists 265/45 front and 295/40 rear tyres on the GTS's 20-inch wheels. Check dates, wear and wheel damage, and compare uneven wear with alignment measurements.
Inspect PASM and any fitted air suspension for levelness, leaks, compressor operation and sensor warnings. The guide mentions wheel-speed-sensor issues that can produce ABS or PSM warnings. Diagnose stored information rather than replacing parts solely because a light appeared. Measure brake discs and pads, including the GTS-specific front equipment, and obtain current estimates for any work.
Electronics, camera and service history
Demonstrate PCM start-up, navigation, Bluetooth, cameras, mirrors, windows and tailgate. The guide discusses PCM restarts, navigation or language problems and mirror-related software behaviour. Confirm installed software and any previous repair instead of treating an intermittent reboot as a harmless quirk. Inspect the rear washer and camera area for leaks or poor operation.
Porsche's first-generation service schedule is listed as two years or 20,000 miles in the buying guide, but its prices and maintenance-pack examples are historic. Request dated invoices, current quotations and evidence that work was performed on time. Regular use and a coherent diagnostic history can be more informative than minimal mileage or a recently cleared dashboard.
Campaigns and inspection limits
Use Porsche's VIN recall tool for this chassis and retain centre confirmation of completed work. A campaign affecting another Macan does not prove applicability here. An independent inspection should cover engine leaks, PDK and transfer-case behaviour, suspension level, brakes, wheels and electronics, with any inaccessible area or untested function recorded.
Brakes, tyres and suspension measurements
The GTS uses uprated front brakes and 20-inch wheels, but their presence does not establish remaining service life. Measure discs and pads, inspect hoses and review brake-fluid history. Compare tyre dates, specifications and wear across both axles, and connect uneven wear with alignment readings rather than assuming new tyres have resolved an earlier geometry problem. Inspect wheel damage and ask about any suspension or steering work.
Body, seals and everyday equipment
Inspect the tailgate, bonnet, door seals and lower bodywork for evidence of contact or water ingress. Demonstrate the powered tailgate, parking sensors, camera, lights, windows and climate control. Check the luggage area and underbody for damage, and list replaced panels or equipment. These are normal inspection steps for an SUV, not claims of a Macan-wide defect pattern. Record anything that could not be demonstrated.
Provenance before a purchase decision
Match the service book to dated invoices for engine, PDK, transfer-case and suspension work. Ask about storage, battery support and recommissioning after inactivity. If a warning or fluid leak was investigated, request the diagnosis and evidence that the repair remained effective. A clear report should separate confirmed condition from areas requiring further examination.
Ask the inspector to connect every warning or fluid trace with a written diagnosis, completed repair and subsequent road evaluation, keeping owner accounts separate from measured findings.
We have not driven this model for this article. No current transaction price, investment prediction or universal reliability claim is offered. The first-generation GTS identity, measured mechanical condition and a clear service file provide a better basis for assessment than a low odometer or an inherited list of Macan problems.
