Overview

We have not driven this car. This review is based on published specifications and the sources listed below.

Scope of this guide

This guide is scoped to the Shelby Raptor (2013), the first Shelby American conversion of the Ford F-150 SVT Raptor pickup, shown at the New York auto show in March 2013. It is a front-engine pickup truck with a supercharged 6.2 litre V8 under the bonnet, a six-speed automatic gearbox and power sent to all four wheels, which the sources call four-wheel drive and which we describe on this site as all-wheel drive. It is not a guide to the standard Ford SVT Raptor on which it is based, and it is not a guide to the later Shelby Raptor and Baja Raptor trucks that Shelby has announced in other years. Those are different vehicles with different engines, outputs and prices, and we touch on them below only so that nobody mixes the figures up.

We have not driven this model for this article. We are an editorial desk that reads sources, and everything below comes from pages we opened: Autoguide, GTspirit, Autoblog, FordMuscle (two articles), Consumer Guide, Work Truck, Off Road Xtreme, International Business Times, New Atlas and The Shop. We have not inspected, owned or tested a truck. This page is for research, not a buying recommendation, and it cannot replace an inspection by a Shelby or Ford specialist.

The figures at a glance

  • Engine: 6.2L supercharged V8, the Ford 6.2 litre V8 from the SVT Raptor with a 2.9 litre supercharger added by Shelby American, mounted front-engine.
  • Drivetrain: six-speed automatic with a manual mode, power to all four wheels (four-wheel drive, all-wheel drive in our catalogue terms).
  • Power: 575 bhp. Every page we read prints 575 hp, up from the stock truck's 411 hp. None of them says whether that is an SAE or a DIN figure or whether it was measured on a dynamometer, so we treat 575 as Shelby's advertised output and we write it as 575 bhp throughout, with no unit conversion applied.
  • Torque: no figure shown. None of the 2013 pages we read gives a torque number for the supercharged truck.
  • 0-100 km/h: no figure shown. No page gives an acceleration time for this truck, in km/h or in mph.
  • Top speed: no figure shown. No page gives one.
  • Production: no total shown. The sources give an annual limit, first 100 trucks a year and then 500 a year, and an annual limit is not a count of trucks built.
  • Years: unveiled in March 2013 as a 2013 model.
  • Price: 17,995 US dollars for the Shelby package, on top of the cost of the donor Ford SVT Raptor, which two pages put at 43,630 US dollars.

History and what changed

Shelby American, the Las Vegas company that builds Shelby Mustangs, showed the Shelby Raptor at the New York auto show on Thursday 28 March 2013. International Business Times describes it as Shelby's first pickup customisation, following the Focus ST that Shelby had shown in January at the Detroit show, and Autoguide notes that the truck joined the Shelby Focus ST and the Shelby 1000 S/C in the range. The donor was the 2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor, a factory off-road pickup that Consumer Guide describes as built for off-road use and not for drag racing.

The headline change is the engine. Several pages say the Shelby treatment takes the stock 6.2 litre V8 from 411 hp to 575 hp. Autoguide and the press release texts carried by several of the pages (Work Truck among them) say the 6.2L V8 gets a 2.9 litre supercharger. Off Road Xtreme and International Business Times name the blower as a Whipple supercharger, and Off Road Xtreme adds that the standard equipment includes a Whipple intercooler. The pages differ on the exhaust: Autoguide and the press release texts say the exhaust is a Shelby Borla system, while Off Road Xtreme and International Business Times call it Stinger exhaust. We cannot tell from the pages whether that is two names for the same hardware or a change between the show car and the delivered trucks, so we simply report both.

What else the pages list as part of the package:

  • Gearbox and drive: a six-speed automatic with a manual mode for driver-selected gears, and power to all four wheels, according to the press release texts.
  • Off-road mode: the press release texts describe an Off-Road mode that coordinates the transmission, stability control and traction control for high-speed off-road driving.
  • Wheels and tyres: 35-inch Goodrich All-Terrain tyres, with custom wheels optional. Autoguide lists wheels, tyres, light bars, bumpers and roll bars as optional extras available through Shelby, and International Business Times lists a luxury-level custom interior as part of the base package.
  • Suspension and body: Consumer Guide says a revised suspension and body kit give the truck a leaner street presence while keeping its off-road credentials, but GTspirit says the truck has very few styling changes beyond stickers and badges. These two readings do not agree on how much changed, and the pages do not itemise the suspension work, so we cannot say which is closer to the delivered truck.
  • Trim: Off Road Xtreme lists Shelby-branded leather seats and dashboard, three graphics packages named Splash, Traditional and Snake, side fender heat extractors, a serial-numbered dash badge and engine plate, and boost and fuel pressure gauges. It lists red, blue, black, white, silver and a colour called terrain for interior and exterior.
  • Options: the same page mentions a polished supercharger, custom control arms, running boards and Shelby museum delivery as extra options.

Which figures we chose, and why

Power

All the 2013 pages we read agree on 575 hp for the supercharged truck, and they agree that the stock figure is 411 hp. We therefore use 575 bhp. The only caution is the one above: no page states the standard, so the number is best read as an advertised output. Later Shelby Raptor models are a separate matter. New Atlas, in an article dated 21 September 2017, describes a different Shelby Raptor with 525 hp, up from 450 hp in the standard truck of that time. That is not this truck and we did not use that figure.

Torque

Torque is where the pages leave a gap. The 2013 articles all stop at horsepower. New Atlas does print a torque number, 610 lb ft (827 Nm), but it belongs to the 2017 truck, not the 2013 one. Reusing it, or inventing a figure from the stock truck, would put a number on the page that we could not trace to the right vehicle. So there is no figure shown for torque.

Acceleration and top speed

No page we read for the 2013 truck gives a 0-60 mph time, a 0-100 km/h time or a top speed. New Atlas, discussing the 2017 truck, says the figure was not measured and only guesses that it would reach four-second territory for 0-62 mph, again for a different vehicle. We have not relabelled any 0-60 mph time as 0-100 km/h, and for this truck there is no figure shown for either acceleration or top speed.

Production

The production numbers are the clearest disagreement. At launch, Autoguide, GTspirit, Consumer Guide and the press release texts all say production was limited to 100 trucks a year, and the press texts add that each truck is numbered, given a unique Shelby CSM number and entered into the Shelby Registry. On 15 April 2013 FordMuscle reported, citing Motor Authority, that Shelby had raised production from about 100 to 500 a year because demand was higher than expected, quoting Shelby as saying it did not expect such an overwhelming and positive response. We could not open the Motor Authority page itself (it refused access), so we rely on FordMuscle's account of it. Neither number is a total of trucks built, and no page gives one, so there is no total shown.

Years

The pages place the unveiling in March 2013 and speak of production per model year. The address of the International Business Times page and the title of the Off Road Xtreme video both refer to a 2013-2014 truck, which suggests the conversion carried on for a second model year. No page we read gives a last build date, so we keep the scope at 2013 and say plainly that we do not know how long it was offered.

Price and value notes

Price is the figure most often repeated. Shelby asked 17,995 US dollars for the package, not including the donor Ford. GTspirit and the press release texts put the base Ford SVT Raptor at 43,630 US dollars, and adding the two gives 61,625 US dollars, although Off Road Xtreme describes the total as just over 62,000 US dollars. Those are new-truck launch figures from 2013, and we did not find any used-market or auction figure for this truck, so we give none. FordMuscle noted that about 13,000 Raptors were sold in 2012 in general, which gives a sense of the size of the donor market and nothing more. The same article said the writer was surprised Shelby did not go further and raise annual production to 1,000 trucks.

What to check before buying

We did not find a used-buying guide for this truck, so we cannot give a list of known faults, recalls or costs, and we will not invent one. What the sources do give is a short set of identification points that a buyer could ask about. The press release texts say each truck is numbered, carries a unique Shelby CSM number and is entered in the Shelby Registry, and Off Road Xtreme says the trucks carry a serial-numbered dash badge and engine plate. A buyer could ask a Shelby specialist or the registry to confirm that the numbers match a real Shelby Raptor, and could ask whether the supercharger and exhaust fitted are those listed by Shelby. Because the conversion is a package fitted to an existing Raptor, the history of the donor Ford truck matters as well. For a vehicle like this, a thorough inspection by a qualified specialist is the sensible step.

Do not confuse it with later Shelby trucks

Shelby has used the Raptor name more than once. The New Atlas piece of 2017 describes a Shelby Raptor with 525 hp, 610 lb ft, a price of 117,460 US dollars and 500 units. The Shop, in a piece dated 30 June 2026, describes 2026 model year Shelby Baja Raptor and Raptor R trucks built in Bristol, Indiana, with a turbocharged V6 on one and a supercharged 5.2 litre V8 on the other, and it calls the 2013 truck the first Shelby edition Raptor with 575 horsepower. That page mentions a three-year, 36,000-mile Shelby warranty for the new trucks. None of the 2013 pages we read mention any warranty for the 2013 truck, so nothing about warranty carries across.

What we could not find

  • Torque, 0-100 km/h, top speed and a total production count for the 2013 truck: none of the pages gives them, so there is no figure shown for each.
  • The Motor Authority production article, Winding Road's review and Drive Arabia: all three refused access, and we did not work around that.
  • Any road test or driving review with measured figures. Off Road Xtreme says the truck is aimed at blazing speed on the open desert but gives no results.
  • A last build date, a list of deliveries or any used price.
  • A detailed list of suspension changes, and whether the exhaust was a Borla or a Stinger unit.
  • Whether the quoted 575 hp is an SAE or DIN figure.

Verdict

The 2013 Shelby Raptor is, on the evidence of the pages we read, a bolt-on supercharger and styling package from Shelby American for the Ford SVT Raptor, advertised at 575 bhp against 411 bhp stock, priced at 17,995 US dollars on top of the donor truck and limited, depending on the date of the report, to 100 or 500 trucks a year. That is what the sources support, and it is where they stop: torque, acceleration and top speed are all no figure shown, and the total built is not stated. Treat it as an interesting research subject rather than a buying recommendation, and take any specific truck to someone who can check the Shelby numbers and the registry entry.
