Scope of this guide
This guide is scoped to the Shelby F-150 (2016), specifically the 700 hp supercharged version of the Shelby American Ford F-150 that was shown at the SEMA show in November 2015 and sold as a 2016 model. It is a four-door, front-engine pickup truck with a 5.0 litre V8 under the bonnet and a six-speed automatic gearbox. On drivetrain we have to be careful: the launch coverage we read does not state one for the package as a whole. The two individual trucks we found described in detail were both part-time four-wheel drive, which a catalogue would file as all-wheel drive, so we describe the drivetrain here only as shown on those trucks and do not claim it for every truck built. This page is not about the naturally aspirated 395 hp Shelby F-150 sold alongside it, and it is not about the later Shelby F-150 Super Snake, which is a different truck with a different power figure.
We have not driven this model for this article. We are an editorial desk that reads sources, and everything below comes from pages we opened: Cars & Bids coverage on autoevolution, Coolfords, Carscoops, FordMuscle, the American Muscle Car Museum, a dealer page on Bob Wade Auto World, a dealer listing on Motorcar Classics, a Cars.com news article and Wikipedia. We have not inspected, owned or tested a truck. This page is for research, not a buying recommendation, and it cannot replace an inspection by a specialist who knows Shelby conversions.
The figures at a glance
- Engine: 5.0L supercharged V8, described by the sources as a Ford 5.0 litre Coyote-type V8 with a Shelby-engineered supercharger added. FordMuscle names the blower as a 2.9 litre Whipple unit, and the American Muscle Car Museum also says Whipple. The other pages simply say supercharger.
- Layout: front-engine pickup with a four-door crew cab, called SuperCrew in the Cars & Bids report and crew cab by FordMuscle.
- Transmission: six-speed automatic, per the Cars & Bids report and the Motorcar Classics listing.
- Power: 700 bhp. Every source we read prints 700 HP or 700 hp, without saying whether that is bhp, SAE gross or net. Carscoops prints it as 700 HP (710 PS), and converting 710 PS at 0.98632 gives about 700.3 bhp, so we treat 700 as 700 bhp throughout this page. FordMuscle adds that it is measured at the flywheel.
- Base truck power: 395 hp for the naturally aspirated Shelby, according to Coolfords, Carscoops and FordMuscle.
- Torque: no figure shown. None of the pages we opened gives a torque number for the supercharged Shelby.
- 0-100 km/h: no figure shown. None of the pages we opened gives an acceleration time for the 2016 truck.
- Top speed: no figure shown.
- Production: the launch coverage gives a limited run of 500 trucks in total, with no split between supercharged and naturally aspirated trucks, so there is no figure shown for the 700 hp version alone.
- Years: shown in November 2015, sold as a 2016 model.
History and what changed
FordMuscle says the trucks were built at Tuscany's facility in Elkhart, Indiana, as a Shelby version of the Ford F-150. Carscoops dated its report 3 November 2015, when the truck was on display at SEMA, and FordMuscle published on 9 November 2015. Coolfords and Carscoops say the 500 trucks would be offered through select Ford dealers. FordMuscle says the base truck is a Ford F-150 Lariat Ultimate and says the trucks would be sold through two hundred authorized Shelby dealers. The American Muscle Car Museum says five hundred F-150 trucks were sent to Tuscany Motors in Elkhart, Indiana, which agrees with the five hundred figure but is a count of trucks sent for conversion rather than a count of finished 700 hp trucks.
The Cars.com article about the later Super Snake adds one useful sentence of context: in 2016 Shelby introduced an off-road-oriented version of the Ford F-150, in contrast to the street-performance focus of the Super Snake that followed for 2017. That fits what the other pages describe. The 2016 truck is a lifted, Fox-shocked, all-terrain-tyre truck with a supercharger option, not a lowered street truck.
The changes listed by the pages we read include:
- Supercharger: Coolfords and Carscoops list an oversized cold air intake, a billet aluminium throttle body, an aluminium heat exchanger, higher-flowing fuel injectors and an updated calibration. FordMuscle adds a 2.9 litre Whipple supercharger, 54-pound injectors, a 132 mm throttle body, a carbon fibre cold air intake and a pump-gas-friendly calibration. The Bob Wade page describes a Shelby-engineered unit on a blue powder-coated blower and intake manifold with an open-air intake and high-flow filter.
- Exhaust: a Shelby-tuned Borla dual exhaust with black tips, according to Coolfords and Carscoops. FordMuscle calls it a Borla stainless steel system.
- Suspension: Coolfords says a custom suspension engineered with Fox and BDS Suspension, with four aluminium-body Fox 2.5-inch shocks with dual speed adjusters, only available on the 2016 Shelby F-150. FordMuscle describes a three-inch BDS lift with two-way adjustable Fox shocks on remote reservoirs. The Cars & Bids report and the Bob Wade page both mention a 3.5-inch lift. The pages therefore disagree slightly on the lift height, three inches against three and a half.
- Wheels and tyres: 18-inch Shelby wheels with BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 tyres according to Coolfords and Carscoops. FordMuscle instead says 35 x 12.50 BFG Baja Champion tyres on 18-inch wheels, and the Cars & Bids truck had beadlock wheels with KO2 tyres. These are probably different trucks or different show and production specifications, but none of the pages explains the difference.
- Colours: Coolfords lists five colour and stripe options, Black, Blue Flame, Magnetic, Oxford White and Race Red. FordMuscle lists blue flame, black, slate, red and Oxford white.
Which figures we chose, and why
Power
Seven of the pages we opened print 700 hp for the supercharged truck, and none prints a different figure for the 2016 model. We therefore use 700 bhp. The caveat is the unit. Carscoops gives 710 PS next to 700 HP, which is consistent with 700 on the same horsepower scale, but no page says whether this is a dyno figure, a calculated figure or a flywheel figure, apart from FordMuscle's flywheel remark. It is best read as the maker's claim for a package, not a measured result.
The sources also treat 700 hp as the supercharger package figure. Carscoops says the total output is now 700 HP compared with the stock truck's 395 HP, and Coolfords says 700 hp with the optional supercharger and 395 hp normally aspirated. The 700 hp is therefore an option on top of the naturally aspirated Shelby truck and not a separate engine from Ford. Wikipedia's table for the thirteenth-generation F-150 lists the plain 5.0 litre Coyote at 385 hp, which is lower than the 395 hp that the Shelby pages quote for the naturally aspirated truck. We did not find a page that explains that ten horsepower gap, so we mention both and do not rely on either for the supercharged figure.
Shelby later raised the figure. The Cars.com article says the 2017 Super Snake produces upward of 750 horsepower, and that is the reason we limit this page to the 2016 truck.
Torque and acceleration
We found no torque figure for the supercharged truck. Wikipedia lists 387 lb ft, which is about 525 Nm at the 1.35582 conversion, but that is for the standard Coyote engine in the ordinary F-150 and not for the supercharged Shelby, so we do not use it. We also found no manufacturer acceleration time or top speed. A search result mentioned a forum owner claiming about 4.5 seconds for 0-60 mph, but we did not open that page and it is anecdotal, so we have not used it, and in any case a 0-60 mph time is not a 0-100 km/h time. There is no figure shown for 0-100 km/h.
Drivetrain
The Cars & Bids report on a 2016 truck says it started as a four-wheel-drive SuperCrew and that power reaches both axles through the six-speed automatic. The Motorcar Classics listing shows a part-time four-wheel-drive system with an electronic hi-lo selector. Those two trucks are the only direct evidence of drivetrain we found. The launch articles from Coolfords, Carscoops and FordMuscle do not name a drivetrain. So we say these examples were four-wheel drive and do not say the package was four-wheel drive only. Shelby's later Super Snake was offered in two-wheel or four-wheel drive according to Cars.com, which shows that drivetrain choice existed elsewhere in the Shelby truck line.
Engine size
The pages call the engine a 5.0 litre V8, and Carscoops compares it with the one in the new Mustang. One dealer listing, Motorcar Classics, calls it a 5.7 litre supercharged engine, which looks like an error because every other page says 5.0 litre. We use 5.0 litre.
Price and market notes
Coolfords and Carscoops give the launch prices as $85,495 for the 395 hp truck and $98,995 for the 700 hp supercharged truck. FordMuscle gives $85,995 for the naturally aspirated truck and the same $98,995 for the supercharged one, so one page disagrees by five hundred dollars on the base price. The Cars & Bids report matches the higher price from another angle: it says the original 2016 F-150 cost $59,475 and that Shelby American added $39,520 in upgrades, bringing the total to $98,995.
That report, published on 6 February 2021, covered a truck with 30,100 miles (48,441 km) that was listed at Cars & Bids, where the bid was $39,250 after 12 bids when the article was written. We did not see the final result, so we do not treat that as a sale price. The Motorcar Classics listing shows a one-owner truck with 9,063 miles and a clean CARFAX report, titled at $99,900 but marked sold, so the page gives an asking figure and not a result. The Bob Wade page shows a Shelby registry serial plaque but no price. All of these are single examples from specific dates, not a valuation, and prices move, so check live listings before relying on any of them.
What to check before buying
Only the Cars & Bids report gives anything close to specifics, so this is a short list and not a full inspection scheme. It says the truck it covered had three recalls performed through March 2020, that its tyres were replaced at about 26,000 miles, and that it rode on a 3.5-inch lift with Fox internal-bypass shocks and beadlock wheels. From that we would suggest confirming that all open recall work has been completed, checking the age and condition of the tyres, and asking what the shocks and lift kit are. The Bob Wade and Motorcar Classics pages both mention a Shelby registry serial number or plaque, so asking for that registry paperwork seems sensible. Because the supercharger is an aftermarket-style package on a Ford truck, the supercharged truck also has the supercharger, tuning and fuelling to consider, and a specialist should look at it. We found no model-specific fault list, no failure rates and no repair costs, so we give none.
What we could not find
- No torque, no 0-100 km/h time and no top speed for the 2016 supercharged truck: no figure shown for any of them in the pages we opened.
- No split of the five hundred truck run between supercharged and naturally aspirated trucks, and no count of how many were actually built.
- No statement of drivetrain for the package as a whole. The four-wheel-drive evidence comes from two individual trucks.
- No explanation for the difference between the 385 hp and 395 hp base ratings, or for the different tyre and lift specifications.
- Several pages would not open for us: the Equipment World report, the Ford-Trucks.com articles, the Ford Authority page and the Streetside Classics listing returned access errors, the Shop Mag page was not found, and Shelby's own page for the truck could not be reached. We did not work around any of these and we have not used them as sources.

Verdict
The 2016 Shelby F-150 700 hp is best understood as a limited-run, lifted, off-road-styled Shelby package on a Ford crew cab pickup, with an optional supercharger that took the 5.0L supercharged V8 to a claimed 700 bhp from 395 hp. The launch price was $98,995 for the supercharged version according to most of the pages we read. Beyond the power claim, the sources are thin: no torque, no acceleration time, no top speed and no clean production count. Treat the 700 bhp as the maker's claim, treat the four-wheel-drive layout as confirmed only for the example trucks we read about, and treat this page as a research aid rather than a buying recommendation.
