Overview
This page is a catalogue summary while we rebuild it as a full ownership review. It is not yet a buying guide.
The Bolide began as an engineering study and became a track-only production car. Bugatti kept the 8.0 litre quad-turbo W16, tuned it to 1,578 bhp, and built the lightest chassis it could around it: 1,450 kg, helped by a carbon monocoque and extreme aerodynamic surfaces. The shape is unlike any road-going Bugatti, with a low central cockpit, enormous intakes and a rear wing that appears to float above the body. Downforce figures are quoted in tonnes. Production is limited to 40 cars and it cannot be registered for the road. In a collection it is the purest expression of the W16 idea, stripped of luggage space, comfort and restraint.
